About Edith Cowan University
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a public university in Perth, Western Australia, named for Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian parliament. It was established in 1991 from the Western Australian College of Advanced Education, whose oldest strand is the Claremont Teachers College of 1902. It is a teaching-and-research university with a strong professional and vocational lineage rather than a nineteenth-century foundation.
Faculties cover education, nursing and midwifery, business, arts and humanities, science, and engineering. The university is known for teacher education, nursing, performing arts at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) on the Mount Lawley campus, and cybersecurity through the ECU Security Research Institute. Main campuses are Joondalup, Mount Lawley, and the South West campus in Bunbury.
ECU enrolls about 30,000 students, including a substantial international cohort. Graduate numbers are smaller than the undergraduate majority. Alumni include teachers, nurses, and WAAPA-trained actors and musicians working in Australia. Joondalup is a suburban north-Perth campus; Mount Lawley sits closer to the city.
Coursework master's degrees in education, nursing, business, cybersecurity, and related professions are the main graduate path, with research master's and doctorates available in the same fields. Teaching follows Australian semesters. Commonwealth and university scholarships support research students. Graduate students split time among suburban campuses and, for the arts, the Mount Lawley precinct.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Edith Cowan University lists 1 master's program, in health & medical sciences. Edith Cowan University holds rank 443 in the GSN Overall University Ranking.
