About Griffith University

Griffith University is a public university in Queensland, Australia, created by act in 1971 and opened at Nathan in Brisbane in 1975. It is named for Sir Samuel Griffith, a drafter of the Australian Constitution. It developed as a multi-campus institution serving Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with sites at Nathan, Mount Gravatt, Logan, South Bank, and the Gold Coast, rather than a single inner-city college.

Teaching is organized in academic groups for arts, education and law; business; health; science; and engineering. The Queensland Conservatorium and the Queensland College of Art sit at South Bank. Environmental science, Asian studies, criminology, nursing and other health fields, and screen production are the areas graduate students most often enter.

About 50,000 students enroll, with a large postgraduate group and international students from more than 130 countries making up a sizable share. Staff number in the thousands. Alumni work in Australian government, health, environmental management, and the arts.

The university offers coursework master's degrees, research master's, and doctorates. The teaching year is organized in trimesters. Ph.D. candidates work under school supervision with Australian Research Training Program and university scholarships; many master's students are in professional coursework. Graduate life is split among the eucalypt Nathan campus, South Bank in Brisbane, and the coastal Gold Coast campus.
