About Brock University

Brock University is a public university in St. Catharines, Ontario, on the Niagara Escarpment. It was founded in 1964 and named for Major-General Sir Isaac Brock. It grew from a small undergraduate college into a comprehensive university serving the Niagara region and the binational border with the United States. Its defining facts are its recent foundation and its location in a wine-growing corridor between Lake Ontario and the Niagara River.

Teaching is organized in faculties of applied health sciences, education, humanities, mathematics and science, and social sciences, together with the Goodman School of Business and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. The Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute supports graduate work in grape and wine science. Business, education, health sciences, and biological science are established strengths.

Enrollment is about 19,000, with graduate students a smaller share than undergraduates. International students form a visible part of the student body, with large groups from China, India, and other countries. The faculty numbers about 600. Alumni include Olympic wrestler Tonya Verbeek and broadcaster Rick Campanelli.

Graduate study includes MA, MSc, MBA, and MEd degrees and a smaller set of PhDs in selected fields, mixing coursework with thesis supervision. The calendar follows a Canadian fall and winter term pattern, with a spring or summer term for some programs. Teaching assistantships, research grants, and Ontario graduate scholarships support many thesis students. The main campus is a suburban escarpment site; graduate work in wine science also uses vineyard and cellar facilities across Niagara.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Brock University lists 8 graduate programs across 7 subjects: 5 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in business & management, computer science and earth & environmental sciences.
