About HEC Montreal

HEC Montreal is a French-language business school in Montreal, Quebec, affiliated with Universite de Montreal. It was founded in 1907 as the first school of management in Canada. Its main campus is on chemin de la Cote-Sainte-Catherine in Cote-des-Neiges, with additional space downtown. It is a specialist faculty of business rather than a comprehensive university.

The school covers accounting, finance, marketing, operations, human resources, and related management fields. Graduate students use research chairs and groups in business analytics, logistics, entrepreneurship, and finance. Trading rooms and research centers on the Cote-Sainte-Catherine campus support master's and doctoral work. Programs are offered in French and, in a growing set of degrees, in English.

Enrollment is about 14,000 students, including undergraduates, taught master's students, M.B.A.s, and doctoral candidates. International students are a visible share of the graduate cohort, especially in English-taught programs. Faculty number several hundred. Alumni include Quebec premier Francois Legault and Canadian business executives.

The school awards the M.Sc., M.B.A. and E.M.B.A., specialized graduate diplomas, and the Ph.D. in administration. Master's study is coursework plus a thesis or supervised project; the Ph.D. is research under a supervisor within the school. The calendar follows Canadian fall and winter terms. Students live in a bilingual city, with the main campus beside the Universite de Montreal metro station.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, HEC Montreal lists 3 graduate programs across 3 subjects: 2 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in business & management, data science & business analytics and financial engineering & quantitative finance.
