About University of British Columbia- Okanagan campus

The University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus is a public research campus in Kelowna, in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. It opened in 2005, when UBC took over the university programs of Okanagan University College, and functions as UBC's second campus rather than a separately chartered university. Academic buildings, residences, and labs occupy a single hillside precinct on the city's north side.

Faculties include arts and social sciences, creative and critical studies, health and social development, management, applied science (with the School of Engineering), science, education, and a College of Graduate Studies. Graduate work is associated with engineering, health, Indigenous studies, and sustainability, including research tied to water, forests, and the valley's agriculture. Degrees conferred on this campus are University of British Columbia degrees.

The campus enrolls about 12,000 students, far fewer than UBC Vancouver. Graduate students are a minority of that total. International students form a substantial share and come from dozens of countries. Faculty number several hundred. Because the campus is young, its own alumni cohort is still early-career; graduates hold UBC credentials in the wider university alumni body.

Graduate study consists of course-based and research master's degrees and PhDs under UBC regulations, with supervision in Kelowna and occasional cross-campus committees. The academic year follows the Canadian winter session from September to April, plus a summer term. Funding includes UBC fellowships, teaching assistantships, and Canadian tri-council awards. Kelowna is a city of about 150,000 on Okanagan Lake, drier than coastal British Columbia, with a self-contained campus rather than a downtown quad.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of British Columbia- Okanagan campus lists 3 graduate programs across 3 subjects, all of them master's programs, with the widest choice in computer science, data science & business analytics and social work & sociology.
