About University of Regina
The University of Regina is a public university in Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan. It opened as Regina College in 1911, operated as the University of Saskatchewan’s Regina campus after 1961, and became an independent university in 1974. It is a comprehensive campus university with three federated colleges—Campion College, Luther College, and First Nations University of Canada—beside Wascana Lake.
Teaching and research run through faculties of arts, business administration, education, engineering and applied science, kinesiology and health studies, media, art and performance, nursing, science, and social work, plus the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. The Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy is offered jointly with the University of Saskatchewan. Research groups work on energy, environment, public policy, and health.
Enrollment is about 16,000 students, including several thousand graduate students and international students from more than 80 countries. Academic staff number several hundred. Alumni are concentrated in prairie public service, teaching, and sport; among them is former NFL punter Jon Ryan.
Graduate study is built around master’s and doctoral degrees supervised in the home faculty, with public-policy degrees through Johnson Shoyama. Coursework master’s programs sit beside thesis routes. The year follows fall and winter semesters with a spring and summer term. Students live in a compact prairie capital; the campus sits inside Wascana Centre, a large urban park near the legislative building and downtown Regina.
