About Vancouver Film School
Vancouver Film School is a private career college in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. It was founded in 1987 to train students for film, television, animation, and games. It is a specialist production school, not a comprehensive university, and occupies buildings in the downtown entertainment district rather than a suburban campus.
Programs cover film production, 3D animation and visual effects, game design, acting, writing, sound design, and makeup. Teaching is studio- and project-based, with industry software and production pipelines. There are no medical, law, or science faculties.
Enrollment is on the order of a few thousand students across one-year intensive programs, with a large international share from Asia, the United States, and Europe. Faculty are working instructors rather than a large research professoriate. Alumni include filmmaker Neill Blomkamp and many artists in animation and games.
Study is mainly diploma and certificate work, with some degree pathways through partnerships, not a PhD culture. Cohorts are year-round rather than a two-semester research calendar. Students live in downtown Vancouver and work in studios; the city is a North American center for visual effects and animation production.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Vancouver Film School lists 1 master's program, in film & filmmaking.
