About Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College
Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, known as UIC, is a liberal-arts university in Zhuhai, Guangdong, on the Pearl River Delta opposite Macau. It was founded in 2005 as the first full-scale higher-education partnership between a mainland Chinese university and a Hong Kong institution, combining Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University. English is the medium of instruction. The college was built on a four-year undergraduate liberal-arts model uncommon on the mainland, with a graduate school later added on the same Zhuhai campus.
Teaching is organized in divisions of business and management, culture and creativity, humanities and social sciences, and science and technology, rather than in a large set of professional schools. Graduate work concentrates on taught master's that extend those divisions, including communication, management, and science. Facilities include a residential campus in Xiangzhou district and laboratories and studios shared with the undergraduate college.
UIC enrolls about 9,000 students, still mostly undergraduates, with a smaller graduate cohort and students from mainland China, Hong Kong, and other countries. Faculty are recruited from Chinese and overseas universities. The college is young, so its graduates work mainly in business, media, education, and other Pearl River Delta professions rather than filling a long roster of historic names.
Master's study is coursework-based with a dissertation or project, taught in English on a two-semester calendar aligned with the undergraduate college. Supervision is by division faculty. Funding includes college awards and support tied to the two parent universities. Graduate students live on or near the Zhuhai campus, a planned-city setting with ferry and bridge links to Hong Kong and Macau.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College lists 2 graduate programs in accounting and communication, media & journalism, all of them master's programs.
