About University of Bayreuth
The University of Bayreuth is a public research university in Bayreuth, in Upper Franconia, Bavaria. It was founded in 1975 as a campus university and remains defined by that late foundation, a single hillside campus, and a small set of interdisciplinary focus areas rather than a full medieval faculty structure.
It is organized into faculties of mathematics, physics and computer science; biology, chemistry and earth sciences; law, business and economics; languages and literature; humanities and social sciences; engineering science; and life sciences, including a large African studies profile. Graduate strengths include polymer and colloid science, African studies, ecology, and law and economics. Research centers and Clusters of Excellence in African studies and in polymer and energy-related materials are the institutes doctoral students join.
Enrollment is about 13,000 students, with a graduate share typical of a German campus university. International students make up around 10 percent or more of the student body, with a visible African as well as European and Asian intake linked to the African studies programs. Academic staff include several hundred professors plus a larger grant-funded research workforce. Alumni include German jurists, managers, and African-studies scholars.
Graduate study uses consecutive master's programs, many in English in the sciences, and doctorates through the university's graduate school and structured programs as well as individual supervision. The calendar is the German semester year. Doctoral researchers are commonly employed on state or grant contracts. Bayreuth is a small festival city; the campus is self-contained, with housing on or near the hill and Nuremberg within regional distance.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Bayreuth lists 1 master's program.
