About University of Mannheim

The University of Mannheim is a public research university in Mannheim, in Baden-Württemberg's Rhine-Neckar region. It received university status in 1967, building on the Handelshochschule Mannheim of 1907. Most teaching and research take place in the Baroque Mannheim Palace on the Rhine, a concentrated palace campus rather than a scattered city university.

Schools cover business administration, economics, social sciences, law, humanities, and business informatics and mathematics; Mannheim Business School runs English-taught and executive master's programs. The university is known for economics, business administration, political science, sociology, and empirical social research. Doctoral students in those fields work through the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences and with nearby Leibniz institutes, including ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research.

Enrollment is about 12,000. International students form a large share of English-taught master's cohorts and come from more than 100 countries. The professoriate is relatively small for a German university and is concentrated in economics and the social sciences, backed by a larger staff of lecturers and researchers.

Graduate degrees include the Mannheim Master in Management, specialized M.Sc. programs in economics and data science, law degrees, and doctorates through GESS, which combines coursework with a dissertation. The academic year follows the German winter and summer semester. Doctoral students are typically funded by research posts and graduate-school scholarships. Students live in Mannheim and the Heidelberg–Ludwigshafen commuting area, with the palace as the daily workplace.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Mannheim lists 4 graduate programs across 4 subjects: 3 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in business & management, data science & business analytics and economics.
