About University of Passau

The University of Passau is a public university in Passau, Bavaria, at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz. It was founded in 1978, making it one of Germany's younger state universities, on a site that had earlier housed a Catholic theological college. It is a compact campus university with a profile in law, computer science, and international cultural and business studies rather than a full technical institute.

Four faculties cover law; business, economics and information systems; arts and humanities; and computer science and mathematics. Graduate work is concentrated in German and European law, information systems, computer science, and language-based international studies. Research centers address IT security, European law, and communication. The campus sits on the Inn river opposite the old town.

About 12,000 students enroll, with an international share well above the German average, including students from Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, and Asia. Faculty number a few hundred. Alumni work in German courts and firms, software companies, and European institutions.

Graduate study follows the Bologna master's (LL.M., M.Sc., M.A.) and the German doctorate, with coursework-heavy master's programs and a supervisor-led dissertation for the doctorate. Semesters run from October to February and April to July. Students live on or near the riverside campus in a small border city facing Austria, with most facilities within walking distance.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Passau lists 1 master's program.
