About Aarhus University

Aarhus University is a public university in Aarhus, Denmark, founded in 1928. It grew from a small municipal university into Denmark's second-largest research university, with a yellow-brick main campus in University Park and further sites in the city and at Herning and Emdrup. It is a comprehensive university covering arts, science, health, business, and engineering.

Five faculties organize arts, natural sciences, technical sciences, health, and business and social sciences (Aarhus BSS). Graduate work is associated with chemistry, physics, economics, political science, medicine, and computer science. The university hospital and the iNANO center are major research sites. Chemist Jens Christian Skou, who described the sodium-potassium pump, received a Nobel Prize while on the faculty.

About 38,000 students enroll, including many in English-taught master's programs and a substantial PhD population. International students come from across Europe and further afield. Academic staff number several thousand. Alumni include C++ designer Bjarne Stroustrup and former NATO secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

Master's degrees follow a two-year Bologna pattern; the PhD is typically a salaried three-year research post in a graduate school. The year is a two-semester calendar. Graduate life centers on University Park, a compact campus in Denmark's second city, with easy access to the harbor district and university hospital.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Aarhus University lists 2 graduate programs in computer science and psychology, all of them master's programs. Aarhus University holds rank 159 in the GSN Overall University Ranking.
