About Aarhus University & the Danish Media and Journalism School
Aarhus University and the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX) jointly support graduate education in journalism and media in Aarhus, Denmark. Aarhus University was founded in 1928 as Denmark's second university; DMJX is a specialized professional school with roots in twentieth-century journalism training and sites in Aarhus and Copenhagen. The partnership pairs a comprehensive research university with a practice-focused media school.
Graduate work sits at the intersection of Aarhus University's arts, social sciences, and information studies and DMJX's newsroom, documentary, and strategic-communication studios. Students use university libraries and research groups alongside DMJX production facilities in Aarhus.
The journalism pathway itself is a few hundred students at a time, including students from other Nordic and European countries, inside a much larger university of about 38,000. Faculty mix Aarhus researchers with DMJX reporters and editors. Alumni work in Danish broadcasting, newspapers, and communications.
The degrees are professional master's awards in journalism and media, taught as coursework with internships. The Danish academic year runs from September to June. Eligible students use the state grant system known as SU. Graduate life is in Aarhus, a compact university city on the bay, with DMJX in the city and Aarhus University's main campus at University Park.
