About Emlyon Business School

Emlyon Business School is a private grande ecole in Lyon, France, founded in 1872 by the Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is a specialist business school rather than a comprehensive university. The main campus is at Ecully on the western edge of Lyon, with further campuses in Paris, Shanghai, and Casablanca. Its defining fact is the French grande ecole model joined to a multi-city campus network.

Teaching is organized around the Grande Ecole program, specialized MSc degrees, MBA and Executive MBA routes, and doctoral training in management. Research sits in faculty centers for entrepreneurship, strategy, finance, and organizational studies, with an on-campus incubator for student ventures. Entrepreneurship, management, and finance are the fields it is best known for. The school holds AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA accreditations.

Enrollment is about 9,000 across campuses, nearly all in graduate or grande ecole programs, with a large international share and students from more than 100 countries. The permanent faculty numbers several hundred. Alumni include Schneider Electric chief executive Jean-Pascal Tricoire and a wider cohort of managers in European industry and consulting.

Graduate study is known for the two-year Grande Ecole degree, specialized master's degrees, and MBA study, with a smaller doctoral track in management sciences. The model mixes coursework, internships, and a thesis or professional project rather than a collegiate tutorial system. Intakes follow the French and international business-school calendar, with a main autumn start. Scholarships, company-sponsored places, and apprenticeships (alternance) are common funding routes. Students divide time between the Ecully campus and Lyon business districts, with optional terms on the school's other campuses.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Emlyon Business School lists 8 graduate programs across 6 subjects, all of them master's programs, with the widest choice in business & management, finance & financial economics and marketing.
