About MINES ParisTech
MINES ParisTech, officially the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris and now Mines Paris – PSL, is a French engineering grande école in Paris. Founded in 1783 to train state mining engineers, it remained a small professional school as it added broader engineering and research. It belongs to Université PSL. Its historic site is on Boulevard Saint-Michel in the 6th arrondissement, with research centers at Fontainebleau, Évry, and Sophia Antipolis.
Academic work is organized in research centers rather than a large set of undergraduate colleges, covering energy and processes, geosciences and the environment, materials, mathematics and systems, and economics and management. Graduate students encounter laboratories in energy transition, subsurface engineering, industrial economics, and applied mathematics. Maurice Allais, recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, conducted research at the school.
The student body is about 1,500 to 2,000, including ingénieur students and a large share of doctoral researchers relative to that size. International students are a visible minority in master's and PhD cohorts. Faculty and research staff number in the hundreds. Alumni include business executive Carlos Ghosn and industrial leader Anne Lauvergeon.
Signature degrees are the diplôme d'ingénieur, PSL master's programs, the mastère spécialisé, and the doctorate. The ingénieur track combines dense coursework with research internships; PhD students are based in the research centers. The calendar follows the French academic year, and industrial partnerships often support doctoral and specialized master's students. Students divide time between the Left Bank site and suburban laboratories.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, MINES ParisTech lists 1 master's program, in civil engineering.
