About Sciences Po

Sciences Po is a public grande ecole and research university in Paris that specializes in the social sciences. It was founded in 1872 by Emile Boutmy as the Ecole libre des sciences politiques, after the Franco-Prussian War, and later became a public institution. Undergraduate colleges operate in Paris and at six regional campuses; graduate study is concentrated in Paris, on the historic Left Bank site around rue Saint-Guillaume.

The Paris School of International Affairs, the School of Public Affairs, the Law School, the School of Management and Impact, the School of Journalism, the Urban School, and the School of Research organize master's and doctoral work. The institution is known for political science, international affairs, public policy, law, and economics. Research homes include the Center for European Studies and Comparative Politics and the Center for International Studies.

Enrollment is about 15,000 students. Close to half are international, drawn from more than 150 countries. Faculty combine full-time scholars with practitioners from government, law, and media. Alumni include French presidents Jacques Chirac, Francois Hollande, and Emmanuel Macron.

The characteristic graduate degree is a two-year master's, often arranged as a dual degree with a partner university; the doctorate sits in the School of Research and follows a seminar-and-dissertation model. Instruction mixes lectures, methods workshops, and policy studios. Students live and work in central Paris, with the Saint-Germain-des-Pres campus as the daily base.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Sciences Po lists 24 graduate programs across 10 subjects: 19 master's programs and 3 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in politics & international relations, public policy & administration and business & management.
