About École Polytechnique de l'université Paris-XI
The École Polytechnique de l'université Paris-XI, now operating as Polytech Paris-Saclay, is the public engineering school of the former Université Paris-Sud on the Orsay campus in the Paris-Saclay cluster. It joined the national Polytech network in 2004, grouping earlier Paris-Sud engineering formations. It is a five-year diplôme d'ingénieur school inside a large science university, not the separate École Polytechnique in Palaiseau.
Departments cover computer science, electronics and robotics, materials, photonics and optics, earth and environmental science, and related industrial engineering. Students use Orsay and Paris-Saclay laboratories, including physics and engineering units shared with CNRS and university institutes on the plateau. The school sits among the physics, mathematics, and life-science faculties that grew at Orsay from the 1950s.
Polytech Paris-Saclay enrolls on the order of 1,000 engineering students, a modest share of the much larger Paris-Saclay student population. The international share is typical of French public engineering schools, with exchange and double-degree partners in Europe and beyond. Alumni work as engineers in French industry and public research.
Graduate-level study is the diplôme d'ingénieur and associated master's tracks in engineering, combining coursework, internships, and a final-year project. Doctoral work, when pursued, is usually in a Paris-Saclay doctoral school after the engineering degree. The calendar follows the French academic year with long industrial placements. Orsay is a suburban science campus south of Paris, reached by RER B.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, École Polytechnique de l'université Paris-XI lists 1 master's program, in mathematics.
