About Aston University

Aston University is a public university in Birmingham, England, tracing to the Birmingham Municipal Technical School of 1895 and receiving its royal charter in 1966. It occupies a compact campus beside the city centre known as the Aston Triangle. Its character is a technological and professional university built around sandwich degrees and employer links, not a collegiate or medieval foundation.

Academic structure groups Aston Business School with engineering and physical sciences and with health and life sciences, including pharmacy, optometry, computer science, and languages. Graduate students use the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, on-campus clinics, and a large placement network.

About 18,000 students enroll, with international students around a quarter of the total, more than 100 countries represented, and a sizable taught postgraduate share. Faculty numbers are in the low thousands. Alumni include politician Keith Vaz and business figures produced by the sandwich-degree tradition.

Graduate study is known for one-year taught master's degrees, MBA and specialist MSc routes, and PhDs by research with supervisory teams. The calendar is standard UK, with many programs built around professional placement. Scholarships and industry studentships are common in science and engineering. Students live in central Birmingham on a campus that functions as a small city-centre precinct.
