About Cass Business School

Cass Business School is the business school of City, University of London, opened in 1966 and branded Cass from 2002 until it was renamed Bayes Business School in 2021 after Thomas Bayes. It occupies buildings on Bunhill Row in the City of London, next to the financial district and the Barbican. It is a specialist school of business, finance and actuarial science, not a comprehensive university.

Departments cover finance, actuarial science and insurance, management and marketing. The school is known for master's degrees in finance, shipping, energy, real estate and actuarial science, and for an MBA. Research groups work on banking, mergers, entrepreneurship and charity finance. Doctoral students sit inside those faculty groups.

Several thousand students are enrolled, most of them at master's level. International students often form a majority of the taught postgraduate intake and come from well over 100 countries. Alumni include easyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou and executives in banking, insurance and shipping in London.

The school offers one-year taught master's degrees, an MBA, specialized MSc programs and a PhD. Teaching is coursework-heavy with a dissertation or project; the PhD is by research. The U.K. academic year starts in September, with some January intakes. Master's scholarships are competitive and often partial; doctoral students more often hold studentships. Students live across London and work in the City rather than on a residential campus.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Cass Business School lists 20 graduate programs across 6 subjects: 19 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in finance & financial economics, business & management and financial engineering & quantitative finance.
