About Kingston University London
Kingston University London is a public university in Kingston upon Thames, in southwest Greater London. It grew from Kingston Technical Institute, founded in 1899, and gained university status in 1992. Campuses include Penrhyn Road, Knights Park, Kingston Hill, and Roehampton Vale along the Thames corridor. Its defining fact is the combination of a former polytechnic with Kingston School of Art.
Academic work is organized through faculties of business and social sciences; health, science, social care and education; engineering, computing and the environment; and Kingston School of Art. Graduate students in art, design, and fashion use studios at Knights Park. Art and design, business, health, and engineering are established strengths.
Enrollment is about 18,000, with a large international share from Europe, Asia, and Africa and graduate students a substantial minority. Faculty number in the hundreds. Alumni include fashion designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista and a wider group of practitioners in London’s design, health, and business sectors.
Graduate study is known for taught master's degrees, including studio MA and MSc awards, plus MPhil and PhD research in the same faculties. Art and design supervision is critique- and project-based; other fields mix lectures, placements, and a dissertation. The calendar follows the English academic year, with a main September intake. Studentships, alumni awards, and part-time study alongside London employment support many postgraduate students. Daily life is suburban-Thames rather than central-London: campuses sit in Kingston town, a short train ride from Waterloo.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Kingston University London lists 8 graduate programs across 5 subjects: 7 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in communication, media & journalism, earth & environmental sciences and music.
