National Film and Television School

The National Film and Television School is a specialist film, television, and games school in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, about 20 miles west of London. Founded in 1971 as a national training school, it occupies Beaconsfield Studios, a working production site rather than a conventional campus.

Teaching is organized by craft: directing, cinematography, editing, producing, sound, animation, composing, screenwriting, and television and games. Students shoot and finish films on industry equipment. The school belongs to CILECT, the international association of film and television schools.

A few hundred students enroll, many of them international. Staff are working practitioners. Alumni include animator Nick Park, cinematographer Roger Deakins, and director David Yates.

Graduate study is professional master's training built on productions rather than a large lecture curriculum. The year follows production schedules. Scholarships and bursaries are available. Students work on the Beaconsfield lot and travel into London for industry contacts.
