About Oxford Brookes University

Oxford Brookes University is a public university in Oxford, England. It grew from the Oxford School of Art, founded in 1865, and later technical colleges into Oxford Polytechnic, and gained university status in 1992. It is named for John Henry Brookes, a long-serving principal. It is a modern civic university in the same city as the collegiate University of Oxford, and is not part of that system.

Faculties cover business, health and life sciences, humanities and social sciences, and technology, design and environment. Architecture, publishing, motorsport engineering, business and nursing are established strengths. The main campus is at Headington, with further sites at Headington Hill and Harcourt Hill. The School of Architecture and the publishing programs remain distinctive graduate markers.

Enrollment is about 18,000 students, including a sizable international cohort from many countries. Faculty number in the low thousands. Alumni work in architecture, publishing, engineering and the public services. International students form more than a fifth of enrollment.

Graduate study is largely taught master's degrees plus MPhil and PhD work by supervision, on the standard UK academic year. Studentship funding exists but is limited relative to demand. Graduate students live in Headington and other Oxford neighborhoods, sharing a city whose academic identity is still shaped by the older university, the hospitals and publishing houses.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Oxford Brookes University lists 2 graduate programs, all of them master's programs.
