Queen Mary University of London

Queen Mary University of London is a public research university in London, England, and a constituent college of the University of London. Its roots include the London Hospital Medical College (1785) and the People's Palace in the East End (1887); Queen Mary College received its charter in 1934. The main campus is at Mile End, with medicine and dentistry at Whitechapel, in East London rather than in the Bloomsbury cluster.

Teaching is organized in three faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, and Medicine and Dentistry, the last as Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Barts Health NHS Trust and other East London hospitals are the clinical partners for medical and dental graduates. Strengths include medicine, dentistry, law, materials and engineering, and the humanities.

Enrollment is about 32,000 students. International students make up more than 40 percent of the population and come from more than 160 countries. Faculty number in the thousands, including clinical academics at Barts. Alumni work in medicine, law, media, and public service in the United Kingdom and overseas.

Graduate study includes taught master's degrees (M.Sc., M.A., LL.M.), research master's, and Ph.D. work, plus medical and dental professional qualifications. Research degrees follow a supervisor-led UK model; taught master's are coursework and dissertation. The year follows the UK academic calendar. Doctoral studentships and research-council awards are the main stipend routes. Graduate life is East London: Mile End and Whitechapel, with the rest of the city reachable by Underground and the Elizabeth line.
