About Royal Holloway, University of London
Royal Holloway, University of London is a public research university and a member of the University of London. Thomas Holloway founded Royal Holloway College in 1879 as a college for women; it opened in 1886 at Egham, Surrey, west of central London. It admitted men in 1965 and merged with Bedford College in 1985. The Founder's Building remains the campus core.
Academic work is grouped in schools covering business and management, performing and digital arts, humanities, law and social sciences, life sciences and the environment, and engineering, physical and mathematical sciences. The Information Security Group is a long-standing research concentration. Earth sciences, psychology, history, music, and drama also draw graduate students. Students receive University of London degrees.
Enrollment is about 12,000, with a large taught-postgraduate population and a smaller doctoral cohort. International students are a large minority, often more than a third. Notable alumni include suffragette Emily Wilding Davison, actor Mark Strong, and musician KT Tunstall.
Graduate study is mainly taught master's (MA, MSc) plus MPhil and PhD by research. Information security and performing arts have professional and studio pathways. The year follows the UK autumn-to-summer term pattern. Doctoral funding often comes from research councils and college studentships. The Egham campus is a parkland site near the M25; Senate House and other University of London libraries remain part of graduate use.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Royal Holloway, University of London lists 98 graduate programs across 33 subjects: 94 master's programs and 2 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in computer science, history and earth & environmental sciences.
