About St Mary's, Twickenham
St Mary's University, Twickenham is a Catholic university in southwest London. It was founded in 1850 as a college to train teachers for Catholic schools and received university title in 2014. The campus occupies the Strawberry Hill estate in Twickenham, beside Horace Walpole's Gothic Revival house. Teacher education and sport remain the structural core of this small church university.
Teaching is grouped in education, sport, theology and religious studies, business, law, and the humanities and social sciences. The institution is best known for the PGCE and other education degrees, for sport science and coaching, and for Catholic theology. Graduate students use teaching-practice partnerships in London schools and sport-science laboratories on the Twickenham grounds.
Enrollment is about 6,000 students, the large majority undergraduates, with a smaller postgraduate population in education, sport, and theology. International students are a modest share, often in sport and education. The academic staff is small relative to a multi-faculty civic university. Alumni work mainly as teachers, coaches, and practitioners in church and public services.
Graduate study is chiefly taught master's degrees and the PGCE, with research degrees available on a supervision model. The academic year follows the standard English calendar, with a main intake in autumn. Bursaries and church-linked support exist for some education trainees. Students live on a compact campus of playing fields and historic buildings in suburban Twickenham, a short journey from central London.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, St Mary's, Twickenham lists 1 master's program, in finance & financial economics.
