About University of Hertfordshire

The University of Hertfordshire is a public university in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, north of London. It began in 1952 as Hatfield Technical College, became Hatfield Polytechnic in 1969, and gained university status in 1992. Its site occupies land of the former de Havilland aircraft works. The main de Havilland Campus is in Hatfield, with teaching also in the town.

Schools cover engineering and computer science, life and medical sciences, business, creative arts, education, law, physics, astronomy and mathematics, and health and social work. Aerospace engineering, computer science, pharmacy, and business are the fields most associated with graduate study, reflecting the town's aircraft industry history and later technology employers. Research groups work in astrophysics, health, and applied engineering.

Enrollment is about 28,000 students, including a large international cohort from more than 100 countries and a substantial share of taught postgraduates. Faculty number in the hundreds. The university is defined more by professional and technical training than by a long list of historic names among alumni.

Graduate study is dominated by taught master's degrees, with a smaller PhD population on supervised research. The academic year follows the English pattern from September. Employer sponsorship and university scholarships support many postgraduate students. Hatfield is a postwar town on the rail line into London, so graduate students often treat the campus as a base with ready access to the capital.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Hertfordshire lists 3 graduate programs in business & management, all of them master's programs.
