About University of Westminster

The University of Westminster is a public university in central London. It began as the Royal Polytechnic Institution, founded in 1838 as the United Kingdom's first polytechnic, and gained university title in 1992. It operates as a city university with campuses at Cavendish, Marylebone, Regent Street, and Harrow rather than a single enclosed campus.

Academic units cover architecture and the built environment, science and technology, social sciences and humanities, business, law, and media, arts and design. Master's-level work is associated with media and communications, journalism, fashion, architecture, tourism, and business. Teaching spaces include the Regent Street buildings, Harrow studios, and Marylebone for architecture and business.

Enrollment is about 19,000 to 20,000 students. International students form a large share, often approaching half, and come from more than 150 countries. Academic staff support a mix of teaching and applied research. Alumni of the Regent Street Polytechnic include Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who studied architecture there.

Graduate study is mainly taught master's degrees such as MA, MSc, and LLM, with MPhil and PhD supervision available in staff research areas. Teaching is modular across two semesters. Many master's students are self-funded or sponsored. Students travel between central London sites on public transport and rent in the London housing market.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Westminster lists 13 graduate programs across 7 subjects, all of them master's programs, with the widest choice in communication, media & journalism, business & management and film & filmmaking.
