About Hong Kong Metropolitan University

Hong Kong Metropolitan University is a public university in Hong Kong. It was founded in 1989 as the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong, granted university title as the Open University of Hong Kong in 1997, and renamed in 2021. It began in distance education and now runs both campus and flexible study, with its main site at Ho Man Tin in Kowloon.

Schools cover arts and social sciences, business and administration, education and languages, nursing and health studies, and science and technology. It is known for applied professional degrees, nursing, teacher education, and part-time study for working adults. Campus laboratories and clinical partners support health programs.

When part-time and distance students are included, enrollment runs to tens of thousands, with a smaller full-time cohort. Most students are local; the international share is smaller than at Hong Kong's older research universities. Alumni work in Hong Kong schools, hospitals, the civil service, and business.

Graduate study is mainly taught master's degrees for professionals, with some research degrees, on Hong Kong's two-semester calendar. Many students continue employment while enrolled. Daily life centers on the Ho Man Tin campus and the surrounding Kowloon districts.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Hong Kong Metropolitan University lists 1 master's program, in literature.
