About Politecnico di Milano

Politecnico di Milano is Italy's largest technical university, founded in 1863 in Milan. It grew from a nineteenth-century institute for engineers and architects into a multi-campus university of engineering, architecture, and design, with principal sites at the Leonardo and Bovisa campuses in Milan and additional campuses in Como, Lecco, Mantua, Cremona, and Piacenza.

Twelve departments cover architecture, urban planning and construction engineering, design, civil and environmental engineering, and industrial and information engineering. Graduate students use laboratories in aerospace, energy, materials, and information technology, and the School of Management for management degrees linked to technology.

About 47,000 students are enrolled, including a large master's population. International students make up a substantial share, especially in English-taught Laurea Magistrale programs, and come from many countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Chemist Giulio Natta, a Nobel laureate, taught here. Architects Renzo Piano and Aldo Rossi are among alumni.

Graduate study is built around the two-year Laurea Magistrale, specialized master's degrees, and the Ph.D. (Dottorato di ricerca), with coursework and a thesis. The academic year typically runs from autumn through early summer. Funding includes merit awards and regional study grants. Students work in Milan's design and manufacturing economy, moving between the Leonardo and Bovisa campuses.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Politecnico di Milano lists 5 graduate programs across 4 subjects, all of them master's programs, with the widest choice in environmental design, architecture and electrical engineering.
