About Delft University of Technology
Delft University of Technology is a public university of technology in Delft, in the Dutch province of South Holland. It was founded in 1842 as a Royal Academy to train civil engineers for the Dutch East Indies and national water works, became a polytechnic, and took university status in the twentieth century. The campus lies south of the historic town center.
Eight faculties cover Architecture and the Built Environment; Civil Engineering and Geosciences; Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science; Industrial Design Engineering; Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering; Aerospace Engineering; Applied Sciences; and Technology, Policy and Management. QuTech, a quantum laboratory run with TNO, and water and delta research are central for graduate students. Architecture, hydraulic engineering, aerospace, and industrial design are the fields most associated with Delft.
About 27,000 students are enrolled, with a large international share at master's level. Doctoral candidates are usually university employees. Alumni include chemist Jacobus van 't Hoff, who studied at the Delft polytechnic before the 1901 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and astronaut Wubbo Ockels.
Graduate education is built on two-year English-taught M.Sc. programs, an EngD professional doctorate in engineering, and an employed Ph.D. Supervision is laboratory- and studio-based, with design projects in architecture and industrial design. Delft is a small historic city on the rail line between Rotterdam and The Hague, and students live in campus housing or in town.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Delft University of Technology lists 38 graduate programs across 21 subjects: 33 master's programs and 5 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in biology, electrical engineering and civil engineering.
