About European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing(ERIBA)

The European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing (ERIBA) is a specialist research institute in Groningen, the Netherlands. It opened in 2012 at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), which is affiliated with the University of Groningen. ERIBA investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms of ageing rather than operating as a multi-faculty university.

Research groups work on genome stability, stem cells, protein homeostasis, and systems biology of ageing. Doctoral researchers use UMCG and University of Groningen core facilities for imaging, sequencing, and related methods. The institute occupies laboratory space on the UMCG campus in the city of Groningen.

The community is compact: group leaders, postdoctoral scientists, technicians, and PhD candidates. Students are enrolled through a University of Groningen graduate school, typically the Graduate School of Medical Sciences. International researchers form a large share of the laboratories.

Graduate work is a laboratory doctorate under a principal investigator, with a thesis committee and original research in ageing biology. Funding is usually a salaried PhD appointment. Groningen is a compact university city in the north of the Netherlands; the medical campus lies a short distance from the historic center.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing(ERIBA) lists 1 doctoral program, in biology.
