About Tilburg University
Tilburg University is a public research university in Tilburg, in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It began in 1927 as a Roman Catholic school of commerce and economics and grew into a university focused on the social sciences, law, and humanities rather than a full science and medical campus.
Five schools structure the institution: the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, Tilburg Law School, the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences, and the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology. Economics, econometrics, law, psychology, and data science are the fields most associated with the university. CentER, the economics research institute, and the graduate schools attached to the faculties support doctoral training.
About 20,000 students are enrolled, with a large graduate population in taught master's programs. International students account for roughly a fifth of enrollment and come from more than 100 countries, many from elsewhere in Europe. Academic staff number in the low thousands. Alumni work in Dutch public administration, European institutions, banking, and academic economics.
Graduate study is dominated by one- and two-year master's degrees taught in English, plus research master's degrees that feed the Ph.D. Doctoral supervision is concentrated in graduate schools attached to the five schools. The calendar follows the Dutch semester system. Funding for Ph.D. candidates is typically a salaried employee contract. The compact campus sits on the edge of Tilburg, a mid-sized city with rail links to Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Brussels.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Tilburg University lists 4 graduate programs across 3 subjects: 2 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in economics, accounting and business & management. Tilburg University holds rank 432 in the GSN Overall University Ranking.
