About DukeNus Medical School
Duke-NUS Medical School is a graduate-entry medical school in Singapore, established in 2005 as a partnership between Duke University and the National University of Singapore. It sits on the Outram campus beside Singapore General Hospital. The school trains physicians and biomedical scientists rather than undergraduates, using a Duke-style curriculum adapted to Singapore.
The MD program follows Duke's four-year structure, including a dedicated research year, and is taught through TeamLEAD, a team-based learning format. Doctoral and MD-PhD tracks sit in the same building, with research in cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, neuroscience, emerging infectious diseases, and health services. Students work with SingHealth hospitals and Duke-NUS signature research programs.
The school is small: a few hundred MD and PhD students at a time, with faculty drawn from Duke, NUS, and SingHealth. The student body is international but Singapore-centered. Alumni enter Singapore's public hospital system, academic medicine, and biomedical research. The campus is urban, next to the national specialty centers at Outram.
Graduate study is doctoral and professional: the MD, PhD, and combined MD-PhD, with laboratory or clinical research embedded in the degree. Supervision follows a principal-investigator laboratory model for scientists and a clerkship-plus-research model for physicians. The calendar is year-round clinical training after the early years. Students live in central Singapore with hospital campuses as the daily workplace.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, DukeNus Medical School lists 1 doctoral program, in biology.
