About Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Albert Einstein College of Medicine is a private medical school in the Bronx, New York City. It opened in 1955; Albert Einstein permitted the use of his name. Once part of Yeshiva University, it is now independent and affiliated with Montefiore Medical Center. It is a specialist biomedical campus, not a comprehensive university.

Departments cover basic and clinical sciences, with PhD and MD-PhD training and teaching at Montefiore and Jacobi. Research centers address aging, cancer, infectious disease, neuroscience, and diabetes on the Resnick campus in Morris Park.

Medical students, PhD students, and postdoctoral trainees together number in the low thousands; there is no liberal-arts undergraduate college. Faculty scientists and physicians number over 1,000. International researchers are common in the laboratories.

The MD is a four-year curriculum; the PhD is laboratory dissertation work, including MD-PhD tracks. PhD students receive stipends. The Bronx medical-center campus has subway access to the rest of New York City.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Albert Einstein College of Medicine lists 2 graduate programs in biology, all of them doctoral programs.
