About Claremont Graduate University
Claremont Graduate University is a private, graduate-only university in Claremont, California, founded in 1925 as the graduate institution of the Claremont Colleges. It sits in a consortium with undergraduate colleges such as Pomona, Scripps and Claremont McKenna, sharing libraries and some services while remaining a separate university. James Blaisdell's group plan created that cluster of small colleges around a shared graduate school, which remains the defining structural fact.
The university is organized in schools of arts and humanities, social science, management, educational studies, community and global health, and information systems and technology. The Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management is the best-known unit. Research and teaching also run through centers in evaluation, religion, politics and transdisciplinary studies rather than through a medical school or engineering college.
About 2,000 students are enrolled, all at master's or doctoral level, with a sizable share of international students from many countries. Faculty number in the low hundreds. Management thinker Peter Drucker taught here for decades; alumni work mainly in education, public policy, business and the nonprofit sector.
Degrees include the Ph.D., Ed.D., M.B.A. and a range of M.A. and M.S. awards, with transdisciplinary seminars plus dissertation or applied projects. The calendar is a conventional U.S. semester system. Funding includes assistantships, fellowships and employer support. Claremont is a small college town about 30 miles east of Los Angeles, and graduate life is split between that campus and the wider Los Angeles region.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Claremont Graduate University lists 1 doctoral program, in psychology.
