About Fordham University

Fordham University is a private Jesuit research university in New York City. It was founded in 1841 as St. John's College at Rose Hill in the Bronx and took the Fordham name in 1907. It is organized across the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, the Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan, and a Westchester campus, a split that places law, business, and the arts next to the city's firms and courts.

Graduate study is housed in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Gabelli School of Business, Fordham Law School, the Graduate School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Service, and the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education. Law, business, theology, social work, and the humanities are the principal graduate fields. Jesuit philosophy and theology remain part of doctoral culture in the arts and sciences.

Enrollment is about 16,000, with graduate and professional students close to half. International enrollment is substantial at Gabelli and in the graduate arts. Alumni include actor Denzel Washington, football coach Vince Lombardi, and member of Congress Geraldine Ferraro, who earned her law degree at Fordham.

Graduate degrees include the JD, MBA, MSW, MEd, MA, and PhD. Law and business are professional and clinic- or internship-based; arts and sciences doctorates follow a seminar and dissertation model. The calendar is the semester. Assistantships, Jesuit scholarships, and New York internships support students. Rose Hill sits beside the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo; Lincoln Center students live and intern in Manhattan.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Fordham University lists 103 graduate programs across 28 subjects: 76 master's programs and 22 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in education, law and psychology.
