About Hofstra University

Hofstra University is a private university in Hempstead, on Long Island, New York. It opened in 1935 as Hofstra College on the former estate of businessman William S. Hofstra and became a university in 1963. A single suburban campus of about 240 acres, rather than a scattered public system, is its defining layout.

The university comprises Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, the Maurice A. Deane School of Law, the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and related health schools run with Northwell Health, and schools of education, communication, engineering and applied science, and health professions. Graduate strengths include law, medicine, business, communication, and education, with clinical training tied to the Northwell hospital network.

Enrollment is about 10,000 students, with a large graduate and professional share in law, business, and the health sciences and a smaller international cohort than at large public research universities. Medical and law faculties add clinical and legal teaching staff beyond the arts and sciences. Alumni include novelist Nelson DeMille and former U.S. Representative Peter T. King.

Graduate study is known for the JD, the MD with Northwell, the MBA, and a range of professional master's degrees in education, communication, and health. Programs combine coursework with clinics, internships, or a thesis on a semester calendar. Assistantships, law-school aid, and hospital-linked support are the main funding patterns. Students live on or near the Hempstead campus, within commuting distance of New York City.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Hofstra University lists 4 graduate programs across 4 subjects, all of them master's programs, with the widest choice in data science & business analytics, finance & financial economics and financial engineering & quantitative finance.
