About Lesley University
Lesley University is a private university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, founded in 1909 by Edith Lesley as a kindergarten teacher-training school. It later added graduate education, counseling, and the arts, took the university title, and in 1998 merged with the Art Institute of Boston. Instruction is split between Cambridge sites near Porter Square and Boston locations for the College of Art and Design.
The university is organized around Lesley College, the Graduate School of Education, the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences, and the College of Art and Design. It is known for teacher licensure, special education, mental health counseling, expressive therapies, and studio art. Boston-area public schools, hospitals, and community agencies supply fieldwork sites.
Total enrollment is about 3,000 to 4,000, and graduate students often outnumber undergraduates. Students come mainly from New England, with a smaller international group. Faculty numbers are in the low hundreds. Alumni are concentrated in classrooms, clinics, and arts organizations in the Boston region.
Graduate credentials are chiefly master's degrees and certificates, with a small number of doctorates in education. Study mixes seminars with supervised internships on a semester calendar; many students attend part time while working. Cambridge places students next to other universities and on the MBTA Red Line into Boston.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Lesley University lists 1 master's program, in business & management.
