About Loyola University Maryland

Loyola University Maryland is a private Jesuit university in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 1852 as Loyola College by the Society of Jesus and adopted the university title in 2009. It remains a primarily undergraduate liberal-arts institution with selected graduate schools rather than a large research campus. The Evergreen campus in north Baltimore is the main site.

Undergraduate study is housed in Loyola College of Arts and Sciences. Graduate work is concentrated in the Sellinger School of Business and Management, the School of Education, and programs in speech-language-hearing sciences, pastoral counseling, and emerging media. The university does not operate its own medical school; clinical speech and education placements use Baltimore-area schools and clinics.

Enrolment is about 5,100 students, of whom about 4,000 are undergraduates and about 1,000 are graduate students. The international share is modest. Faculty number several hundred. Notable alumni include journalist Mark Bowden and sportscaster Jim McKay, with many graduates in Maryland business, education, and public life.

Graduate degrees are mainly professional master's programs in business, education, and health-related fields, with a smaller doctoral offering. Teaching is coursework-heavy with internships and clinical hours. The calendar is a standard semester system. Graduate assistantships and campus scholarships support some students. Students live and study on a residential north-Baltimore campus with access to the city.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Loyola University Maryland lists 1 doctoral program, in psychology.
