About New York Film Academy

The New York Film Academy is a private film and performing-arts conservatory founded in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock in New York City. It later opened a Los Angeles campus and other teaching sites. It is a specialist production school, not a research university.

Programs concentrate on filmmaking, acting for film, producing, screenwriting, cinematography and related media crafts. Facilities are studios, stages and editing rooms.

Enrollment across locations is in the low thousands. Many students are international and enroll for one- or two-year professional degrees. There is no research-doctorate faculty.

Graduate study is built around MFA and MA programs in film and performance. Teaching is conservatory-style: students write, shoot and edit from the first term. The New York campus operates in Lower Manhattan.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, New York Film Academy lists 2 graduate programs in film & filmmaking and human–computer interaction, all of them master's programs.
