About Penn State Harrisburg
Penn State Harrisburg is the Capital College of the Pennsylvania State University, a public land-grant university campus in Middletown, Pennsylvania, southeast of Harrisburg. The campus opened in 1966 as the Capitol Campus to serve the state capital region and upper-division and graduate students, and it later expanded into a four-year college within the Penn State system. It is a commuter-and-residential regional campus of the land-grant university, not a separate private college.
Schools cover behavioral sciences and education, business administration, humanities, public affairs, and science, engineering, and technology. The campus is known for public administration, criminal justice, information science, engineering, and teacher education. Graduate students use the Middletown campus labs and internships in Harrisburg agencies rather than a full medical center on site.
Enrollment is about 5,000 students, with a large share of part-time and graduate students who work in the capital region. International students are a minority. Faculty number a few hundred. Alumni work in Pennsylvania state agencies, school districts, and regional firms; the campus does not have a long list of household-name graduates separate from Penn State as a whole.
Graduate study includes professional master's degrees and a smaller set of doctoral programs, notably in public administration, education, and engineering-related fields, with evening and hybrid coursework for working students. Supervision combines seminars with applied projects. The calendar is the U.S. semester year. Funding includes assistantships and employer support common among state workers. Students live in Middletown, Harrisburg, and nearby towns, commuting to a suburban campus beside the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Susquehanna River valley.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Penn State Harrisburg lists 1 master's program, in computer science.
