About Robert Morris University
Robert Morris University is a private university in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, west of Pittsburgh near Pittsburgh International Airport. It began in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy, later became the Robert Morris School of Business, named for the financier of the American Revolution, and gained university status in 2002. It is a teaching-focused private campus rather than a land-grant or collegiate university, with a main suburban campus and historic ties to downtown Pittsburgh business education.
Schools cover business, education and social sciences, engineering, mathematics and science, nursing, and communications and information systems. The university is known for business, information systems, engineering, nursing, and sport management. Graduate students use campus laboratories and regional hospitals for nursing clinicals.
Enrollment is about 3,000 to 4,500 students, with a mix of undergraduates and a smaller graduate population. International students are a minority. Faculty number a few hundred. Alumni work in Pittsburgh corporations, hospitals, and schools; named graduates are more often regional business and sports figures than national political leaders.
Graduate study includes master's degrees and a small set of doctorates, among them doctoral work in information systems and nursing practice, with evening and online coursework for working adults. Supervision is coursework-plus-capstone or dissertation depending on the degree. The calendar is the U.S. semester year. Assistantships exist but many students are self-supporting professionals. Campus life is suburban Moon Township, with housing on a wooded campus and easy access to Pittsburgh and the airport.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, Robert Morris University lists 1 doctoral program, in computer science.
