Salus University

Salus University is a private health sciences university in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia. It opened in 1919 as the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and adopted the Salus University name in 2008 after adding other clinical professions. It remains a specialist professional school rather than a comprehensive university.

It is organized as the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, the Osborne College of Audiology, a College of Health Sciences and a College of Education and Rehabilitation. Graduate students train in optometry, audiology, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, orthotics and prosthetics, and related public-health and biomedicine fields. The Eye Institute in Philadelphia is the principal teaching clinic for optometry.

Enrollment is about 1,200 students, almost entirely graduate and professional, with international students concentrated in optometry. Faculty numbers are in the low hundreds. Alumni are mainly practicing optometrists, audiologists and rehabilitation clinicians in the United States.

Graduate degrees include the Doctor of Optometry, Doctor of Audiology, clinical doctorates and master's awards, plus a small PhD in biomedicine. Study is coursework and supervised clinics rather than a pure research apprenticeship. The campus is a suburban professional school with clinical travel into Philadelphia.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Salus University lists 1 doctoral program, in health & medical sciences.
