About Suffolk University

Suffolk University is a private university in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Gleason L. Archer founded it in 1906 as an evening law school for working students; colleges of business and of liberal arts were added later. Its defining fact is that origin as an urban professional school on Beacon Hill, beside the Massachusetts State House.

The university comprises the College of Arts and Sciences, the Sawyer Business School, and Suffolk University Law School. It is best known for law, public administration, finance, and communication. Graduate students use the law library and downtown classrooms, and public-service programs draw on Boston city and state government as a site of practice.

Enrollment is about 6,000 to 7,000 students, with a substantial share in graduate and professional programs, especially the JD and master's degrees in business and public administration. International students form a visible minority. Alumni include members of the Massachusetts bar and legislature. Congressman John Joseph Moakley, a law alumnus, is the name attached to public-service programs.

Graduate study is known for the JD, the MBA, and professional master's degrees, often with evening and part-time options that continue the working-student model. The calendar is the semester system. Campus life is downtown Boston: Beacon Hill, the State House, and the nearby financial district.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Suffolk University lists 1 master's program, in communication, media & journalism.
