About Texas Christian University
Texas Christian University is a private university in Fort Worth, Texas, founded in 1873. It is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and grew from a small church college into a comprehensive university on a single Fort Worth campus. It is organized as a set of colleges and a divinity school rather than a public land-grant or technical institute.
Graduate and professional work is concentrated in the Neeley School of Business, the College of Science and Engineering, the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the College of Education, the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, and Brite Divinity School. Business, nursing, education, and theology are the fields most associated with advanced study. Research is smaller in scale than at large public flagships, with applied and professional programs carrying much of the graduate enrollment.
Enrollment is about 12,000 students, with a few thousand in graduate and professional programs. International students are a modest share of the total. Faculty number in the hundreds. Alumni include journalist Bob Schieffer and running back LaDainian Tomlinson; others work in Texas business, media, and ministry.
Graduate degrees include M.B.A. and specialized master's degrees, professional master's degrees in nursing and education, the M.Div. at Brite, and a limited set of doctoral programs. Study is largely coursework and professional-project based, with research doctorates in selected fields. The calendar is the semester system. Assistantships are available in some departments. Fort Worth is a mid-sized city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metro, with internships in business, health, and media.
