About University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is the health-sciences campus of the University of Colorado, in Aurora, Colorado, on the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. Medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and related programs moved here from Denver in the 2000s. It is a specialist academic medical campus, not a general undergraduate university.

Academic units include the School of Medicine, the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the College of Nursing, the School of Dental Medicine, the Colorado School of Public Health, and the Graduate School. UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, and a VA medical center share the site. Research groups concentrate on cancer, immunology, genomics, and regenerative medicine, including the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

The campus enrolls about 4,500 degree-seeking students, almost all in professional or research graduate programs, plus residents and fellows. Faculty number in the thousands when clinical appointments are counted. Graduates work across Colorado hospital systems and in federal health agencies; the campus has no separate undergraduate alumni tradition of its own.

Graduate study is organized around the M.D., Pharm.D., D.D.S., Doctor of Nursing Practice, public-health doctorates, and research Ph.D. and master's degrees. Training mixes laboratory groups with hospital-based clinical supervision. The calendar follows professional-school and semester patterns. Students live in Aurora and Denver and reach the campus by light rail at the Fitzsimons/Anschutz station; daily life is that of a working medical campus rather than a college town.
