About University of Richmond

The University of Richmond is a private university in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1830 as Richmond College by Virginia Baptists. It added Westhampton College for women in 1914 and adopted the university name in 1920. The campus covers more than 350 acres in the city’s West End and was long organized as coordinate colleges for men and women, now joined with professional schools.

Academic units are the School of Arts and Sciences, the Robins School of Business, the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, which opened in 1992, the School of Law, and the School of Professional and Continuing Studies. Graduate work concentrates in law, business, and leadership rather than a wide doctoral research slate.

Total enrollment is about 4,000 students, most of them undergraduates; graduate and professional students number in the hundreds, mainly in law and business. International students are a modest share. Faculty number a few hundred. Alumni include NASA astronaut Leland Melvin.

Graduate study is known for the J.D., the M.B.A. and related business master’s degrees, and master’s work in leadership studies. Law follows the three-year U.S. professional curriculum; business mixes coursework with internships in the Richmond–Washington corridor. The calendar is two semesters. Students live on a wooded suburban campus about fifteen minutes from downtown Richmond.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Richmond lists 1 master's program, in law.
