About University of Tulsa

The University of Tulsa is a private research university in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It began in Muskogee in 1894 as Henry Kendall College, continuing an earlier Presbyterian school, and took its present name in 1921 after moving to Tulsa. It remains a compact urban campus whose identity is tied to energy, law, and, later, computing and cybersecurity rather than to a large land-grant system.

Academic work is divided among the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences, the Collins College of Business, the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the College of Law, and the Oxley College of Health Sciences. Petroleum engineering, energy economics, and energy law are long-standing strengths. The Tandy School of Computer Science and related cyber programs support graduate work in information security, alongside engineering laboratories linked to the region's oil and gas industry.

Enrollment is about 4,000 students, with graduate and professional students a substantial minority. International enrollment is modest compared with large coastal research universities. The faculty is small by national research-university standards. Alumni include novelist S.E. Hinton and former U.S. Representative and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Steve Largent.

Graduate study includes master's and doctoral work in engineering and the sciences, the J.D. and related law degrees, business master's degrees, and health-related professional programs. Law and business follow professional-school calendars; research degrees combine coursework with a thesis or dissertation. Assistantships are common in engineering and the sciences. The campus sits in midtown Tulsa, a midsize city built around energy and aviation.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of Tulsa lists 72 graduate programs across 24 subjects: 44 master's programs and 16 doctoral programs, with the widest choice in computer science, psychology and biology.
