About University of the Pacific
The University of the Pacific is a private university whose main campus is in Stockton, California. Chartered in 1851 in Santa Clara, it is California's first chartered university and moved to Stockton in 1924. It runs three campuses: Stockton for arts, sciences, education, business, engineering, and pharmacy; Sacramento for the McGeorge School of Law; and San Francisco for the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. That multi-campus professional structure is its defining fact.
Schools include the College of the Pacific, the Conservatory of Music, the Gladys L. Benerd College of Education, the Eberhardt School of Business, the School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, McGeorge School of Law, and the Dugoni School of Dentistry. Dentistry, pharmacy, law, and music are the fields it is best known for.
Enrollment is about 6,000, with a large graduate and professional share because of law, dentistry, and pharmacy. International students are a visible minority on the Stockton campus. Faculty number several hundred. Alumni include jazz pianist Dave Brubeck and football quarterback Steve Young.
Graduate study is dominated by professional doctorates (D.D.S., Pharm.D., J.D.) and master's degrees in education, business, and music. McGeorge and Dugoni run cohort professional programs; Stockton graduate work mixes coursework master's and professional doctorates on a two-semester calendar. Funding is a mix of assistantships on the Stockton campus and professional-program aid. Students split among Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco depending on the school.
In the Grad School Navigator directory, University of the Pacific lists 4 graduate programs across 4 subjects: 3 master's programs and 1 doctoral program, with the widest choice in data science & business analytics, finance & financial economics and health & medical sciences.
