About Weill Cornell Medicine

Weill Cornell Medicine is the medical school of Cornell University, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. Cornell University Medical College opened in 1898 and was renamed in 1998 after a gift from Sanford I. and Joan Weill. It is a specialist health-sciences campus of Cornell, not a comprehensive university in itself, and sits beside NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Professional and graduate education runs through the medical college (M.D.), the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences (Ph.D. and master's in biomedical fields), and related health programs. The Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program links Weill Cornell with The Rockefeller University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Clinical partners also include Hospital for Special Surgery. A separate Weill Cornell Medicine campus operates in Doha, Qatar.

The New York campus enrolls on the order of 400 medical students plus several hundred graduate students in the biomedical sciences. Faculty number in the thousands when hospital-affiliated physicians are counted. Alumni include physician-scientist Anthony Fauci (M.D. 1966) and academic clinicians across U.S. teaching hospitals.

Ph.D. study is laboratory-based, with rotations and a thesis; M.D. study is clinically intensive in hospital clerkships. Dual degrees include the M.D.-Ph.D. and combined medical-master's paths. The calendar follows the medical-school year. Students live in Yorkville and nearby neighborhoods and work along the hospital corridor of First Avenue, not on Cornell's Ithaca campus.

In the Grad School Navigator directory, Weill Cornell Medicine lists 1 master's program, in biology.
